Test Post on New Server

I think I finally have this site fully hosted on the new server now.  The database has been updated with the required links and login and password information.  I think all this information has bee propagated through the DNS servers and I can access the page from all of my browsers.  There are a couple of small issues that I think is mostly back end related and shouldn’t have any effect on the main page.  I still haven’t checked the connectivity with Lightroom yet which is the main reason for making this change in the first place.

I didn’t really believe this was going to take all day to make this happen.  Email support is obviously for non-serious issues that can take hours or days to work through.  I needed to go to direct online chat mode to help work through the issues.  Next step is to check the Lightroom interface.

First Sunset Shoot

I performed my first sunset photo shoot a couple of days ago and then immediately went out of town on a planned trip before I had a chance to edit the photos.  It was a lot of fun and definitely a learning experience.  These shoots take time as we have to get there early enough to make sure all the lights are on and we establish the view we want to capture.  Then it’s a waiting game.  Waiting for the sun to set and the rich colors to pop out in the skies.  All the time taking a photo about every 5-10 minutes.  When the sun finally sets, it’s time to run around with a flash to add light to items like shrubbery, trees, darker areas on the house, etc.  These will all get edited and combined later during post-processing.  Needless to say, there are a lot of photos to go through.  In this case, I have 72 photos from the sunset shoot.   That will keep me busy tomorrow!  I’ll post the final result soon.

Making Headway

We’re making headway with the layout and content of the new web site.  The look and feel will be an ongoing effort until we arrive at something we can live with.  I’m having to do a lot more customizing of the theme layout than I did in earlier versions of the same theme.  This was kind of frustrating and exciting at the same time knowing I have some more flexibility.

I ended up not being able to access the site for awhile – as a matter of fact, NONE of my sites hosted on GoDaddy were available.  After finally getting through to the helpful folks at GoDaddy, we finally determined that it was my router that was screwing up and not letting me access the sites hosted at Go Daddy.  All other operations were operating normally which was really confusing.  I had even turned everything off and rebooted all the devices and still no luck.  Eventually after doing some research I messed around with the MAC addresses in the router and now everything is working again.  Very strange…

Started uploading photos to the site for use later.  And I again found a little annoying problem with the plugin used in Lightroom to upload directly to the wordpress site.  It seems it’s security related and keys off how often the site receives access requests; too many in too short of time blocks access.  Now I’m tweaking the parameters in that plugin’s settings to see if I can reduce or eliminate that issue.  I may have to completely rename the offending php file and re-program WordPress to use the newly-named file.  Kind of annoying that I have to do this but apparently it’s a fairly common problem.

Anyway it’s time to run out to get dinner ready for the family as we’re turning around quickly and heading out to an Audubon meeting tonight where we’re bringing refreshments.  Tomorrow will be a busy day (hopefully the weather will cooperate with me some more) as I have three photo shoots to work on including one twilight shot what will take a couple of hours to work through.  That’s not including the editing time which will add another 2-3 hours to that.

The Start of Something New

As you can see, we’ve started the update process for the web site.  We’re now running under WordPress with the NextGen photo gallery plugin to help manage photos.  This will make it easier for us to add photos to posts and showcase some of our recent work.  If you have any questions or suggestions, don’t hesitate to contact us.  Our new contact page will be up shortly but in the mean time you can leave a comment here or contact us at:  850-624-5257.
